Major theological differences between Lutherans and Roman Catholic

1. The authority of scripture

Lutherans believe that scripture alone has the authority to determine doctrine; whereas the Roman Catholic Church gives this authority to the pope and the church

2. The doctrine of justification

Lutherans believe a person is saved by God's grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone

3. Differences in the number and nature of sacraments

Roman Catholics believe in 7 sacraments, while Lutherans believe in 2.  Lutheran sacraments involve a physical element.  Baptism which includes water and Communion which involves bread and wine.
